A fascinating journey to discover eastern Sicily, between the the provinces of Catania and Ragusa. This trip, through cinema and literature, will uncover myths to debunk, myths to which the Sicilian people are still strongly connected, as well as the authentic stories of those who live here.

A round trip through eastern Sicily, starting and ending in Catania. It is a touring trip, so although we’ll have plenty of walking tours, we will also need a vehicle to travel. On days without scheduled activities we suggest following the tips in our roadbook but you can also book additional activities: guided tours, excursions, extra meals, etc.

The route can be rearranged upon request.

Itinerary

1° day

Arrival in Catania - Riviera dei ciclopi

We’ll take a stroll through Aci Castello and Aci Trezza, two charming fishing villages where time seems to stand still in the realm of myth.

 

Overnight in Aci Castello.

2° day

Etna

A scenic route that takes you from the sea to the volcano. A brief trek to admire the unique lunar landscape.

3° day

Savoca and Letojanni: The myth of il Padrino

We’ll visit the towns of Savoca and Letojanni, which have much more to offer beyond their cinematic fame.

4° day

Catania

Walking tour to discover the “black city”, so named because of the lava stone used in its buildings.

5° day

Modica, chocolate and solidarity

Guided visit of one of the most beautiful centers of the Sicilian Baroque,,followed by a workshop and tasting of the typical Modican chocolate by the Don Puglisi cooperative, which supports the integration and empowerment of women that come from difficult situations.

6° day

The myth of Montalbano

From Scicli (Vigata in the tv series) to the seafront between the Fornace Penna and Punta Secca, we’ll visit the iconic locations where the Inspector Montalbano, written by Andrea Camilleri, carried out his investigations. Later, we’ll take a cooking class to explore and taste the most famous dishes from the Montalbano series.

7° day

Cava d’Ispica

Trekking through the river valley that cuts through the Iblean plateau, followed by a tasting of typical local products.

Overnight stay in Modica.

8° day

Marzamemi. Departure

We’ll visit Marzamemi, a picturesque fishing village that has now become a popular tourist destination.
