Our Commitment to Sustainability

Our journey toward sustainability began with the goal of strengthening Addiopizzo Travel’s identity as a tour operator committed not only to fighting the Mafia, but also to promoting tourism that respects the environment, supports local communities, and fosters a fairer economy.

A Strategic Plan for Ethical and Responsible Tourism

In 2024 and 2025, we developed our first Strategic Sustainability Plan, thanks to our participation in the European project iSTARS – Island Sustainable Tourism Action Through Resilient SMEs, with the support of ACTA – Sensi Contemporanei, a social enterprise specialized in sustainable tourism. This process allowed us to thoroughly analyze our organization, our suppliers, and our services, in order to build a concrete action plan aligned with international standards (in particular the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council – GSTC).

Our Priorities

We identified four key areas in which to take action to improve our impact:

  • Internal Organization: Ongoing training on sustainability topics, engaging younger generations, and appointing a dedicated staff member to coordinate sustainable actions.

  • Office Management: Reducing plastic use, cutting water and energy consumption, encouraging sustainable mobility among staff and travelers, and using renewable energy sources.

  • Suppliers: We select partners who share our values of legality, social justice, and environmental respect. We are developing internal guidelines to ensure that all our suppliers adopt sustainable practices, including through joint training initiatives.

  • Travel Experiences: We are working to expand our offering of low-impact tours, with itineraries accessible by bike or on foot, and with activities that promote responsible behavior among travelers. Our first 100% green tour is currently in the planning phase.

A Concrete Result: Biosphere Certification

In March 2025, we obtained the international Biosphere certification, which acknowledges the commitment of tourism enterprises in environmental, social, and cultural matters. This achievement strengthens our credibility and motivates us to continue improving.

Looking Ahead

Our plan is based on a participatory approach, involving staff, suppliers, experts, and local communities. We will continue to monitor our progress and report transparently on the actions taken, aware that every daily choice can contribute to a fairer and more sustainable tourism model.
